Computer Engineering Student Wins Two Awards at ICEBIV 2024 with “Miggy Buddy” Innovation

Semarang, tekkom.ft.undip.ac.id – Rasya Theresa Jeffrosson Purba, a 2022 Computer Engineering student, achieved two prestigious awards at the 3rd International Competition of Entrepreneurship Business Innovation (ICEBIV) 2024. Her innovative project, titled “Miggy Buddy: A Household-Level Food Waste Management Innovation Using Maggot Bioconversion for A Zero Waste Future,” earned her and her team both the Gold Award and the Best Award in the Business Idea Battle category.

The competition was organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Islam Bandung, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia. ICEBIV 2024 carried the theme “Promoting Innovative Entrepreneurship for a Sustainable Economy,” with three main categories: Business Model Canvas, Business Plan, and Business Idea. The competition opened for registration on June 1, 2024, with the winners announced online on September 5, 2024.

Rasya, alongside her team members Muhammad Emilson (Universitas Gunadarma), Muhammad Akram Daffa (Politeknik Negeri Jakarta), Muhammad Hanif, and Rendi Syarif Hidayatulloh (Universitas Indonesia), under the guidance of faculty advisor Patricia Evericho Mountaines, S.T., M.Cs. from the Computer Engineering Department, developed Miggy Buddy as an innovative solution for household organic waste management.

Miggy Buddy addresses the growing volume of organic waste in Indonesia, focusing on environmentally-friendly waste processing methods. The project utilizes Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae bioconversion, which can reduce organic waste by up to 56%. The project includes a waste management kit featuring tools, BSF larvae breeding media, and an interactive consultation platform. It also incorporates ecoenzyme technology to prevent unpleasant odors, offering a sustainable solution for household waste management.

Rasya explained that the main goal of the project is to transform household organic waste into a valuable resource through bioconversion-based waste management. This project aims to significantly reduce waste volumes and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

Rasya and her team have a larger vision for Miggy Buddy beyond the competition. They plan to further develop a comprehensive project plan based on their submitted business idea, optimize the product prototype, and seek pitching opportunities with investors to secure additional funding. They hope this idea will continue to evolve until it is ready for real-world implementation.

Rasya and her team’s success at ICEBIV 2024 showcases the tremendous potential of youth-driven innovations in addressing environmental challenges. Through Miggy Buddy, they not only provide an innovative solution but also offer hope for a more sustainable future.
